About Us
A small workshop with a big vision — reconnecting surfers with nature.
Tide & Timber was founded in 2019 by Jonas Berger and Maren Holst, two surfers and woodworkers who grew tired of the environmental cost of conventional surfboards. From a converted fishing shed on the Flensburg Fjord, they began experimenting with hollow-core wooden board construction — and discovered something remarkable.
Not only were wooden boards more sustainable, they surfed differently. The natural flex of wood, the way it responded to water, the warmth underfoot — it was a completely different connection to the ocean. Word spread, orders came in, and Tide & Timber was born.
Our Values
- Sustainability first — every decision is measured against its environmental impact
- Local sourcing — all timber comes from certified forests within 500 km
- Transparency — we share our supply chain, methods, and carbon footprint openly
- Community — we run workshops, beach cleanups, and surf events year-round
- Craftsmanship — no shortcuts, no compromise, no mass production
Our Workshop
Our workshop sits on the banks of the Flensburg Fjord, in a renovated 1920s boathouse. It is powered entirely by renewable energy — solar panels on the roof and a small wind turbine in the yard. We heat with wood offcuts in winter and cool with Baltic breezes in summer.
Visitors are always welcome. We offer workshop tours every Friday afternoon and run regular board-building courses where you can shape your own surfboard under the guidance of our craftspeople. There is nothing quite like riding a wave on a board you built with your own hands.

The Numbers
400+ boards shaped since 2019 · 800+ trees planted · 0 kg of foam used · 12 tonnes of CO₂ offset · 3 full-time craftspeople · 1 very loyal workshop dog named Drift
