Switching to 100% Bio-Based Epoxy

A major step forward: all our boards now use plant-derived epoxy resin, eliminating the last petrochemical from our process.

This is a milestone we have been working towards since day one. As of this month, every Tide & Timber surfboard is sealed with 100% bio-based epoxy resin, derived from plant oils rather than petroleum.

The switch was not easy. Bio-epoxy has different working properties — longer cure times, more sensitivity to temperature — but after 18 months of testing with our supplier, we have dialled in a formula that matches the strength and water resistance of conventional epoxy while being completely plant-derived.

Combined with our linseed oil finish and sustainably harvested timber, this means a Tide & Timber board now contains zero petrochemical ingredients.
