Visiting Our Paulownia Supplier
We travelled to our paulownia plantation in Schleswig-Holstein to see this seasons harvest.
Transparency is one of our core values, so we want to share where our wood comes from. Last week, we visited the paulownia plantation run by the Petersen family in Angeln, just 40 km from our workshop.
Paulownia is remarkable: it grows up to 3 metres per year, absorbs more CO₂ than almost any other European tree species, and produces an incredibly light yet strong timber. The Petersens have been growing it organically for eight years, and their plantation now supplies around 60% of our paulownia needs.
Seeing the trees that will become surfboards — standing in a field, swaying in the wind — is a powerful reminder of the living origins of our craft.
